What is the Community Cupboard?

Chirk Community Cupboard was launched on March 10th, 2021. 18 visitors attended the opening day, and the initiative now helps more than 58 regular members. The Community cupboard is a food waste initiative run from Chirk Parish Hall and overseen by Chirk Community agent and a number of volunteers. Food donations are collected from several local supermarkets, and we also receive a donation from Fareshare each week. Many members of the community of Chirk also donate, with the community garden (again run by local volunteers) providing fresh produce when available. The food waste initiative ensures that food which may normally be thrown out by supermarkets has the chance to be used.

Location and Opening Times

The Community Cupboard is located in Room 1 of the Parish Hall, Holyhead Road, Chirk, LL14 5NA.

The Community Cupboard is open every Wednesday 2pm - 5pm.

If you are unable to access the Parish Hall and are in need of help from the Community Cupboard, please contact Chirk Community Agent who may be able to arrange to have a food parcel delivered.

Who can use the Community Cupboard?

The food cupboard is open to any individual who lives or works in Chirk and who wishes to help with food wastage. This is not a food bank, and as such we welcome anyone in the community who wishes to access the initiative. Visitors are free to collect food, drop donations off or even swap items form their own cupboards. No food goes to waste, any fresh produce not used by the end of the day is collected by other food waste schemes in other areas.
